Frequently Asked Questions

General & Company Info

Where are Racer-X Customs graphics made?

Every graphic kit we sell is designed and manufactured right here in the USA. We handle our own design, printing, and production to maintain strict quality control across every order.

How do I reach customer service or get technical support?

If you have questions about fitment, materials, or your installation, you can reach our technical support team directly by calling (256) 229-4191. Our team is happy to assist you with any questions before or after your purchase.

Are your graphics officially licensed by vehicle manufacturers?

Our products are aftermarket styling kits designed to fit specific vehicle body lines. Mentions of makes, models, and years (such as Ford, Chevy, Dodge, RAM, Toyota, etc.) are used solely to indicate fitment compatibility. We are an independent aftermarket styling brand and have no OEM affiliation, factory sponsorship, or vehicle manufacturer endorsement.

Products & Materials

What is the difference between Cut Vinyl and Full-Color Printed Vinyl?

  • Cut Vinyl Graphics: Solid-color decals and striping kits precision-cut from a single layer of film. They come pre-masked with transfer tape for direct, one-piece alignment using the hinge installation method.
  • Full-Color Printed Vinyl: Multi-color, detailed photographic or custom artwork printed with fade-resistant inks, topped with a clear scratch-resistant over-laminate, and backed by automotive paint-safe removable adhesive.

How long do your vinyl graphics last?

Depending on the type of vinyl and material selected, our graphics carry a lab-tested outdoor durability rating of 5 to 7 years. This covers UV resistance, edge adhesion, and film integrity under normal outdoor exposure. Please note that durability ratings reflect material testing rather than a guaranteed lifespan, as real-world longevity depends on local climate, sun exposure, and routine care.

Will removing the graphics damage my vehicle's paint?

Our graphics use premium automotive adhesives engineered for clean removal without damaging factory-cured OEM clear coats. However, because aftermarket paint, repainted panels, aged clear coats, and wrapped surfaces vary in condition, we cannot guarantee paint safety or residue-free removal on non-OEM or compromised surfaces.

How do I know if a graphic fits my specific vehicle?

We organize our exact-fit kits by Make, Model, and Generation/Year Range. For our "Trim-to-Fit" or Universal kits, exact dimensions are listed directly on the product page. Always measure your intended application area before ordering universal graphics to ensure proper coverage.

DIY Installation & Preparation

What tools do I need to install my decals?

A basic DIY installation requires:

  • Vinyl squeegee or a firm plastic card with a soft edge
  • 70% or higher Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)
  • Clean microfiber towels
  • Painter’s / masking tape (for positioning and creating a hinge)
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors or a precision hobby knife

What is the best method for installing your cut vinyl graphics?

We recommend using the DIY Hinge Method:

  1. Prep: Wash and dry the vehicle thoroughly, then wipe the panel down with 70%+ isopropyl alcohol to remove wax, grease, and road contaminants.
  2. Position: Place the graphic dry against the panel with the backing paper intact. Measure and align it, then secure the top edge with masking tape to create a sturdy pivot hinge.
  3. Apply: Flip the graphic up along the hinge, peel away the backing paper from underneath, and squeegee from the center outward to lay the vinyl down smoothly while preventing air bubbles.
  4. Finish: Pull the transfer tape back flat against the surface at a sharp angle, followed by a firm finishing pass over all edges.

Can I install graphics over freshly painted panels?

No. Fresh automotive paint and clear coats must be fully cured and outgassed before applying vinyl decals. Check with your body shop or painter to ensure the paint has completely cured prior to installation.

Maintenance, Care & Regulations

How long should I wait before washing my vehicle after installation?

Keep the vehicle dry and avoid washing it for at least 24 hours after installation to allow the adhesive to properly bond to the vehicle's surface.

Can I take my vehicle through an automated car wash or use a pressure washer?

Hand washing is always recommended to maximize the life of your graphics. If you use a pressure washer, follow these precautions:

  • Keep the pressure washer on its lowest setting.
  • Keep the spray nozzle at least 12–18 inches away from the vehicle.
  • Direct the water spray from the center of the graphic outward toward the edges, never spraying directly under or straight into the edges of the vinyl.
  • Avoid automatic car washes with harsh rotating brushes, and never use abrasive compounds or harsh chemical solvents on the vinyl.

Are these graphics street legal?

Our graphics are intended for vehicle styling. Because traffic regulations vary by state and jurisdiction, it is the customer's responsibility to make sure decal placement does not obstruct required exterior lights, license plates, mirrors, or driver visibility.
